Le Chant — ‘the song’ — sits on the historic Eikenhof ground in Stellenbosch’s Polkadraai Hills, where vines have grown since the early 1800s. The name and the rooster honour the French Huguenots who settled the Cape after fleeing Europe.
It belongs to the Oddo family of France, in partnership with fifth-generation Polkadraai vigneron Willie Joubert. Winemaker Petri Venter runs the cellar under the technical direction of Taaibosch’s Schalk-Willem Joubert.
The Rouge is a Merlot-led Bordeaux blend with a Cape twist of Shiraz and Sangiovese; the Chenin Blanc speaks in South Africa’s signature white grape.
